Worship pure and simple is what Wash Away is all about. Recorded live at Christ Church in Nashville, Tennessee, Wash Away features Don Poythress (pronounced “Portress”) in a moving worship experience from the heart of one of Nashville’s top worship leaders and songwriters. “The live recording was such a moving night for me,” shares Don, “because we recorded the album in the chapel where I was baptized almost 16 years ago.” Don is joined by guest artists Paul Baloche and Ricky Skaggs on this modern acoustic worship album that features vibrant songs and powerful lyrics. “Ricky joins me on a song titled The Faithful Love of Jesus,” Don explains. “It speaks of our desire that others would know the depth of the love of Jesus.” The 12 brand-new songs on Wash Away have a unique musical styling that’s at times modern worship, at times organic country, and always extremely worshipful and singable.
Don explains that the title song “began as a prayer for the Lord to wash away everything that holds me back from being wholly given over to Him and His purposes. I’ve tried to record a group of honest and heartfelt songs in a very organic way. I pray that what started as the overflow of my heart will touch others.” Don is widely acclaimed as a songwriter and he’s found a home for many of his songs on recordings by pop and country artists including Willie Nelson, The Martins, Jaci Velasquez, Tim McGraw, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Kellie Pickler, and more. He’s also a noted songwriting instructor who’s taught at the Vanderbilt School of Music, NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association), and the “Write for Jesus’ seminars that are held across the country. Known as a performer in his own right, he’s appeared on such stages as the Grand Ole Opry as well as performing for four years at Opryland USA. He’s also a regular at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Don has served as worship leader at Abundant Life Church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, for 14 years. We hope you enjoy this special album
